XX Congress of Carpathian Balkan Geological Association


CARMA has established collaboration with Polytechnic University of Albanian and Geological Survey of Albania since 2012, and carried out filed investigation on some excellent ophiolite and world-class chromitite deposits in Albania. Diamond and some interesting minerals have been discovered from the chromitites in Albania and will be reported in international journals soon.

The Carpathian Balkan Geological Association is a regional affiliate of the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS). The congress is held every four years, and it is the leading opportunity for earth scientists of the Balkan region and their international colleagues to discuss the contemporary problems of the Alpine and Carpathian geology. The congress was hold in Tirana, Albania. Over 500 geologists from more than 20 countries attended the meeting. CARMA held a session on ophiolite, and Profs. Yang, Dilek and Robinson, and graduate students Yazhou Tian and Lan Zhang from CARMA delivered oral reports.
